Metal Futons

My son is going to be living off campus for his last year of college. He wants to live by himself so he can stay focused on his studies and the internship that he will be completing in the second semester. He does not want to spend a great deal of money so he started looking for an efficiency apartment. This will allow him to cook his own meals and provide sleeping space. He asked me to help him locate an apartment.

We had a list of several rentals close to the university that he is attending. Some of the apartments were furnished and others were not. We started with the furnished apartments. Most of them were not very inviting. The furnishings were worn and stained and the spaces cramped. We found a basement apartment that had a private entrance. The basement had a laundry room that the family upstairs could access from a separate stairwell. The laundry room was separated from the apartment area by a door. The apartment consisted of one large room and a bathroom. In the corner of the room was a small kitchen with a small stove and refrigerator. There was a short counter space that had room for two bar stools. My son could eat his meals on this counter. At the other end of the room was a slight indentation that resulted from the stair well. We decided that this would be a good place for him to place a dresser. We have metal futons in our basement that I have wanted to replace. I told my son that he could have the metal futons and could position one for his bedroom area and place the other to create a living room space where he could put a small television. The metal futons were in two sizes. One was a love seat size which converted into a single bed and the other was a full size sofa and bed. He thought this would be a good option.

The metal futons were awkward to get out of our basement area. The twin size one had never been used as a bed so the mattress was in good shape. The full size mattress had been used often by guests so we decided to replace it. Having the metal futons would allow him to have friends stay over if he chose and also would create a large living room area if he chose to have friends over. When it was just him in the apartment he could leave the larger futon folded out as his bed.

When we were shopping for the replacement mattress I noticed that there are now metal futons that are more attractive than the ones I gave my son. I decided to purchase the new metal futons to replace the ones that he took to his new apartment.
